INTAKE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM

 

The air intake system supplies clean air for the combustion of the engine. The exhaust system makes the gases and heat exit and drives the turbocharger. The components which produce the admission and air exhaust are the following:

 

 1.-Prefilter
The pre-filter removes the larger particles of dust and trash.


 2.-Air filters
In general, there are two air filters: a primary and secondary one. These collect the contaminants and impede the entrance of dust into the engine.

3.-Service Indicator of the Air Filter

                    The indicator observes the restriction throughout the filters. It is the most precise method  to determine when the air filters should be changed. Each engine should have one. One interesting fact is that changing the oil filters too often produces more harm than benefit — because the dust could enter with great ease in the during the change.

Therefore, the indicator is a very important maintenance tool.
 4.-Turbocharger
 The exhaust gases impulse the turbocharger which pumps additional air into the engine allowing it to burn more fuel, and, therefore, increases the potency of the exit.

5.-Aftercooler


The after cooler cools the air alter it leaves the turbocharger, but before it enters the engine. This increases the density of the air, so that more air can accumulate in each cylinder.
 6.-Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold.


 The intake and exhaust  manifolds are directly connected with the crank(s).The intake manifold distributes clean air from the air filter or from the turbocharger to each cylinder,  while the exhaust  manifold collects the exhaust gases from cylinder and directs them to the turbocharger and/or silencer.

 7.-Silencer/Muffler


The silencer/muffler  reduces the noise level and provides enough back pressure to the engine, so that the engine “breathes” as it has been designed to do.
