HISTORY OF DIESEL MOTORS

The creator of Diesel motors was a man named Rudolf Diesel (1858-1913), he was born on March 18th of 1858 in Paris, son of Bavarian immigrants. In 1870 his family had to abandon France upon the French-Prussian war breaking out, and Rudolf was sent to Germany.

In 1875 she entered the Polytechnic School of Munich, where he was a disciple of Carl von Linde (1842-1934), of who he worked for in his Refrigeration company as a representative in Paris. In the French capital, he began to become interested in the design of an expansion motor which worked running on ammonia; even though he did not have success, such effort led him invest his free time and savings in the development of an internal combustion motor which avoided the waste of energy inherent to thermal motors.

Carl von Linde (1842-1934)

The Mechanical Engineering Institute of Germany issued the Order of Merit due to his research and investigation in regards to petroleum motors. Between 1893 and 1897 he built the first workable diesel motor in the world. In 1892 Diesel patented a motor characterized by high thermal output at the expense of a very high compression grade. In 1897 the new motor was at its best and its efficiency was proven in a satisfactory manner.

Motor inventado por Diesel

1.      Diesels motors apply greater compression than combustion engines.
2.     Diesel motors apply liquid propellant which is less volatile than gasoline, and these propellants, which are generally heavier, are cheaper than gasoline.
3.     Diesel motors use injection pumps for the fuel and sprayer, so that its introduction is in small particles. In the combustion motors, the propellant-air mix takes place in the carburetor.
4.      Diesel motors, due to having to work with greater pressures, are heavier then combustion engines of the same size, therefore, its elements have to be more robust, of greater dimensions and therefore heavier.
